Hey uu, flow...

I'm still here. Hasn't been an easy spring with an all expenses paid trip to the cardiac ICU (again) and then a 15 round brawl with COVID that knocked me back a bit. But I'm still here. An uncooperative network at work has made browsing a challenge. The audacity of them not letting us do something other than work...

Not sure if I mentioned it, but I started building an acoustic guitar (dreadnought body) awhile back. I'm building it out of 50,000 year old ancient kauri wood from New Zealand. Started with a slab of kauri wood. Tap tune matched a piece of 100 year old red spruce for the top and have a gorgeous chunk of African mahogany for the neck. Top, back and sides are sanded, sides have been bent and glued to the end block and tail piece block and the kerf liners are in place and the top and back rims are radiused. I cut the end graft joint a few weeks ago, and will be starting on the back strip inlayand bracing Friday. It's been an incredible journey - I never knew how therapeutic sanding wood could be, but I'm pretty sure it's what Zen does after a long day of Zenning. I'll try and be better about posting updates. Hell, I'll just start a new thread topic and chuck a bunch of pictures in there.

I think this is the link to the H/S/F video wlg3 was referring to. I thought young Mr. Apostol did a helluva job and Bobby looked like he was having a good time. Not sure it's possible to play too many notes in a bluegrass interpretation of any song. For me, I really concentrated on listning to Jarrod Walker on mandolin. That kid is incredible.

Hi Mando,

Thanks for the report. Good to read your words here.

I would LOVE to see pics of your guitar. I've been playing now for 10 years. Occasionally I sound pretty good. But even when I sound like doo-doo, I still enjoy it. I'm at it to entertain myself. So far, so good.

Perhaps, someday, I'll be fortunate enough to experience zen though guitar building. For now, I really enjoy swimming pool maintenance.

Stay vertical. Keep moving.

Come for The Foggy Mountain Top but stay for the Lonesome Moonlight Waltz.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Hope you're well on your way to full recovery. You are gonna post pics of the guitar, aren't you? And a sound bite after it is finished?

U2 -

I will sit down tonight and post pictures of the guitar build effort to date. I'll start with a pic of the slab of ancient kauri wood I cut the back and sides from.
